In these sessions, we will do a combination of talk-therapy, therapeutic skill building, and specific nature based interventions, which will be selected based on your goals. Nature interventions are a simple and effective way to decrease loneliness, increase feelings of connection, purpose, and meaning, and create depth in life. Nature is inherently grounding - the 'ground' of Mother Nature is where the term comes from! This makes nature a particularly appropriate place to learn ways to cope with anxiety, stress, and burnout. We can also learn amazing lessons about grief, love, loss, purpose, motivation, and patience through nature metaphors. And, of course, we can join with nature to learn to play, how to show up authentically, and how to zoom out of our personal lives and practice not taking things so seriously. The best part is - nature is everywhere! Even in the city. That means you can apply whatever you learn in these sessions no matter where you go.
Potential topics: Identifying Goals, Professional Development, Skill Building, Clarifying your Values, Life Transitions, Accountability, Resume Building, Interview Skills.
Where we'll meet: All initial clinical mentoring sessions will be virtual, through Google Workspace. After establishing a good, working relationship, we may be able to hold in-person sessions in nature, coffee shops, or other public locations.
The immigration process can be daunting and traumatizing. Many legal cases struggled to "prove" to the court that it is unsafe for an individual to return to their country of origin. Psychological evaluations can identify whether there is immediate and ongoing psychological risk for the individual if they are required to return to their country of origin.
What I offer:
Psychological evaluations for cases including:
● Asylum Cases – Detailing how PTSD symptoms provide evidence of the persecution they suffered. Explaining psychological reasons why a client missed the one-year filing deadline.
● Extreme Hardship Cases – Identifying unique factors contributing to a client’s psychological distress such as: illness; disability; professional, financial, or academic hardship; or adverse home-country conditions that would affect the petitioner or their family members.
● VAWA Cases – Detailing the client’s psychological symptoms which are common for domestic violence victims; assessing credibility; and where useful, explaining less common phenomena such as ways in which men are abused by female partners.
Psychological evaluations consist of:
2-4 hours of face-to-face, virtual sessions. In these sessions, I will gather background information, identify cultural considerations, and conduct diagnostic assessments.
Self-Assessment Scales which will be completed by the individual on their own time.
An extensive clinical review of all information collected from sessions and self-assessment scales.
A comprehensive written report, generally 10-20 pages, which I will complete and send to the client and lawyer for use in the legal case.
